What former CELTA trainees say

Why do the CELTA in Budapest? Because I can think of no better way to relax after an intense week of training than by visiting one of the thermal baths! The whole city and the school are so welcoming and vibrant that it’s a real pleasure to spend a month here training – so much so that many of us decide to stay longer.

I don’t think I’ve ever learned so much in such a short space of time before. Both your knowledge of the English language and your personal development as a teacher increase dramatically. The support offered by the very professional trainers and your fellow course-mates means that no query goes unanswered and gives you a sense that your personal opinion counts for a lot.

In this way, doing the CELTA does as much for your self-confidence and ability to communicate and negotiate successfully with others as it trains you to teach using the latest and, in my opinion, most enjoyable methods.

CELTA helped me realise that being a native English speaker does not make one an effective teacher. Only effective teaching techniques can do that. This is what CELTA is all about. The 20 day CELTA program was the most work, most pressure, most result and most fun-filled 20 days in my life. I never thought that one can learn so much in just 20 days.

What made the CELTA program particularly effective is the way they combined instruction of teaching techniques with practice of real classroom teaching and with candid but positive and sensitive feedback both from the trainers and your fellow trainees.

I chose to do my CELTA at IH Budapest because I had heard about its fantastic reputation as a teacher training centre, and I wasn't disappointed. In fact,
despite what I had heard, I was still surprised at how excellent the course was. It exceeded all my expectations. The CELTA was one of the best experiences of my life. I had taught for a year before attempting CELTA and I found I had so much to learn. The course really helped me to develop as a teacher, both inside the classroom and out. The trainers were amazing - they offered so much useful developmental advice and so much support. By the end of the course I was exhausted but happy. I was glad that the stress was over but I didn't want the experience to end. I had a wonderful group of fellow trainees and some of
us are still in touch nearly a year after the course finished.

Since doing the course I taught for 4 months at IH Malaysia and have now returned to Budapest to work at IH here. Doing CELTA has really opened up a world of opportunities for me in TEFL. I would highly recommend IH Budapest as the place to do a CELTA. The whole school is so helpful, welcoming and supportive - the IH teachers, the teacher training department and reception. I hope to see you sometime in Budapest.

If you’re thinking of doing CELTA, then Budapest is THE place to do it. It was quite intensive, but very rewarding, and it certainly equipped me for life as an EFL teacher. The staff and other teachers at I.H. Budapest were friendly and helpful, and the trainers were excellent. They have a lot of experience and knowledge, and were very supportive. The school is a short tram ride form the city centre, so when you have a spare moment, you can get out there and explore one of the most exciting cities in the new Europe.

What made the course special for me was the great atmosphere created by the trainers and staff at the school. The trainers were always supportive and enthusiastic. The CELTA course was very hard work but immensely rewarding. Doing the course in Budapest in particular was a great experience. The city has a lot to offer in the way of nightlife and culture.

The CELTA was a very practical course, and highly worthwhile. I feel as though I can travel and work anywhere in the world now. The trainers were professional, hard working and a lot of fun. It was a rewarding experience because I feel I worked hard and gained a useful qualification at the end of the course. What made the course special for me was the dedication of the tutors. They gave everything to get you through the course. I was impressed by the professionalism of the staff and the encouragement they gave. By the end of the course, I felt much more prepared to teach in a classroom. Since doing the course, I have a full-time job teaching English in a city I love. From the moment I arrived in Budapest, I knew I would enjoy my stay here. The city is beautiful and the cafés are perfectly relaxing. Doing the course in Budapest in particular was enjoyable because the school has so much training experience and the city is so central for travelling to other cities in Central Europe.
